A Campaigning Voice for Kelvin
NHS Car Parking
With the constituency of Glasgow Kelvin having hospitals at Yorkhill, the Western and Glasgow Royal Infirmary as well as Gartnavel being extremely close by, I know that the issue of car parking at hospitals is an issue for a number of my constituents, whether they are patients, visitors or staff at the hospitals in and around the constituency.
I believe that car parking should be free and without restrictions for patients, visitors and staff at NHS sites in Scotland and I am pleased that my colleague Paul Martin MSP is currently consulting the public on a Proposed NHS Parking (Scotland) Bill. I am supporting the Bill, which would prohibit NHS Boards from charging patients, their visitors and NHS staff from parking at NHS sites, and to require NHS Boards to make reasonable provision for managed, free parking at NHS sites.
As with all Members’ Bills, the bill can only proceed if the Scottish Parliament receives evidence from members of the public supporting its proposed measures and Paul Martin has asked that any comments on the bill are made directly to him either by e-mailing paul.martin.msp@scottish.parliament.uk or in writing to his Constituency Office at 604 Alexandra Parade, Glasgow, G31 3BS. The consultation period ends on 6th April 2009 and you can respond until this date.
The full consultation document is available for download from my website, while further copies are available from Paul Martin’s constituency office.
Standing up for the West End
In recent years I have become increasingly concerned about the way the West End is being developed with an over emphasis on pubs and clubs and an unsustainable housing mix threatening our open spaces and the still essentially residential nature of the area.
Deposit Protection Scheme
I am calling on the Scottish Government to implement a tenancy deposit protection scheme that offers the same protection to tenants in Scotland as is afforded to the rest of the United Kingdom.
A Greener Glasgow
I have campaigned relentlessly for the roll out of recycling provision to all parts of Glasgow Kelvin, regardless of whether the housing is detached and semi-detached, tenemental or in high flats.
Improving Public Transport
I succeeded in having the Number 92 Bus which serves many vulnerable and elderly people in Thornwood reinstated after the bus operator pulled the service which connects the area to shopping districts and local hospitals.
