Pauline alongside Sarah Boyack MSP and Charlie Gordon MSP in support of the motion Scrap and Build for Better Buses Made in Scotland

Dear Constituent ,

I was delighted to ask the Scottish Executive when it last met representatives of Culture and Sport Glasgow and what issues relating to its cultural remit were discussed.

My interest in the matter stems from the fact that half of Glasgow's museums and galleries are in my constituency. The Kelvingrove art gallery and museum is the most visited museum in the United Kingdom outwith London, yet it receives no national funding. I welcomed the Government setting-up of the museums think tank and the work that it is doing. However I am keen to see what conclusions the think thank has come to and to ensure that’s its findings encourage the minister The Minister for Culture and External Affairs (Fiona Hyslop) to give Glasgow a fairer share of the funding available for museums and galleries in Scotland

Motions

S3M-5943 Pauline McNeill: Scottish Newspaper Industry—That the Parliament notes the widespread opposition to the removal of public information notices (PINs) from local newspapers as proposed by the Scottish Government; notes that the consultation on PINs concluded on 12 February 2010; calls on the Scottish Government to listen to the views of all those who submitted to the consultation and to the outcome of the vote in the Scottish Parliament on 28 January 2010, with 74 to 48 in favour of the motion to withdraw the proposal; welcomes the Newspaper Summit on 13 February 2010, at which the industry’s opposition to the Scottish Government’s proposals was repeatedly raised, and further calls on the Scottish Government to withdraw the proposals as soon as possible.
